The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) İmralı Delegation has set out to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Before leaving Parliament, the delegation answered questions from journalists and then departed for the Presidential Complex.
Buldan: The process must move forward quickly
Speaking to journalists, Pervin Buldan said, "We will hold another meeting with the President today. We will come together to discuss certain issues immediately following the adoption of the law."
Buldan continued: "We have several issues on our agenda which we will try to address in a written statement. Of course, everything that has happened, the expectations, and what needs to be done will be among these issues. Meetings have been held at every stage after a certain point, but we have now entered a new phase. We want to emphasize the importance of this meeting following the vote on the law in Parliament.
The process must move forward quickly. We do not want it to be dragged out over time and become derailed. We believe this must not be allowed to happen. We believe progress needs to be made. We hope to achieve a result as soon as possible."
Sancar: The first important step now needs to be implemented
Mithat Sancar said that peace is a difficult path, adding, "The legal framework for peace provides the foundation for navigating this path in a sound manner. The law adopted in Parliament through a historic consensus has become the cornerstone of the legal framework for peace."
Mithat Sancar stated: "The legal framework for peace also requires other elements. The first important step now needs to be implemented. We will exchange views on the implementation phase and on how this step should be put into practice. We have our own ideas and proposals, which we will present. We will also share our views on what kind of roadmap should be developed for the other elements of the legal framework for peace."
“The also contains the fundamental elements of institutionalization”
In response to a question about the implementation of the law, Sancar said: "The law stipulates that various bodies need to be established. The legislation that has been adopted also contains the fundamental elements of institutionalization. These mechanisms need to be put into operation quickly. Establishing these bodies is the first step toward ensuring that the process moves forward on an institutional and legal basis. This will also require a decision by the National Security Council (MGK) and the publication of that decision in the Official Gazette. We believe this process must be completed as soon as possible. We will also discuss this issue with the President."
“We need to meet with Mr. Öcalan as soon as possible”
Asked whether the delegation would travel to İmralı Island, Pervin Buldan said, "A visit to İmralı will also be planned. We intend to travel to the island as soon as possible."
Pervin Buldan continued: "Following our meeting with the President, we need to meet with Mr. Öcalan as soon as possible. Perhaps afterward, we could also meet with Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş, because there is also a need for a monitoring body at this stage. We could hold discussions regarding the establishment of such a monitoring body in Parliament.
Our routine meetings with political parties will continue. Nothing specific has been scheduled yet. We believe that rulings by the Constitutional Court (AYM) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) should be implemented as soon as possible, without waiting for a decision from the National Security Council (MGK). There is strong public expectation on this issue. We will, of course, raise the need for these rulings to be implemented. This remains an important issue before us.”
Buldan concluded: "Administrative and legal arrangements are needed. As for the monitoring body, Mr. Numan Kurtulmuş could establish it if he wishes, even if Parliament goes into recess."
