Mehdi (Sikan) Roshani, a Kurdish political prisoner from Malekshahi in Ilam Province, is facing charges of “enmity against God” (moharebeh) and “spreading corruption on earth” (efsad-e fel-arz) following his rearrest last month.
An informed source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) that security forces arrested Roshani for a second time on 18 July and transferred him to Ilam Central Prison, where he remains held.
Following his transfer to prison, a new case was opened against him at Branch Six of the Investigation Office of the Ilam Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office, where he was formally notified of the charges.
However, no indictment has yet been issued, and the case remains at the investigation stage.
The source said Roshani had previously been prosecuted and sentenced over his participation in protests in Malekshahi.
Security forces first arrested Roshani on 16 January during protests in Malekshahi. After approximately three months in detention, he was temporarily released on bail.
The Islamic Revolutionary Court in Ilam later sentenced him to three years in prison, which was subsequently reduced to nine months.
