I do want to mention that Canada has the Indian Act which previously forced Indigenous women to lose their Indigenous status if they married someone who didn’t have legal status . If they divorced, they would not regain their status. This meant all land claims and other cultural protections (where any existed) would be forfeit. This was until 1985 .

For example, Chinese men were forbidden from marrying anyone but Chinese women. Chinese women were then actively prevented from entering the country. And that’s just the law for Chinese people. They would also arrest and surgically mutilate women who became pregnant or had children out of wedlock. Canada has an extremely brutal track record in this regard.
